In Honor of Juneteenth

by Kevin D. Freeman on June 19, 2023

Our most recent holiday, signed into law by President Biden, is loved by progressives. But I love it too, although for maybe different reasons. I love the impact, the meaning, power, and symbolism. We should celebrate that enslaved people learned of their freedom in Galveston, Texas on June 19, 1865. They were under the law of Heaven and earth already free. But they were denied their freedom through lies and manipulations.

This second American Independence Day came because those former slaves learned that their freedom had been won through blood and sacrifice. The war was over earlier but the awareness had not yet reached the southernmost portions of Texas. General Order 3 on June nineteenth marked the creation of Juneteenth, an important part of American history worthy of celebration.

The evils of slavery continue around the world today, crimes against law, humanity, and Heaven itself. Juneteenth is a time of reflection and celebration. It is also an opportunity to refuse to be subjected again. My personal heritage includes Native American ancestry, with great-great(maybe another great?) grandparents forced onto the Trail of Tears (another shameful portion of American history) and even a connection to Sam Houston (Sam was married to my 6th great aunt). Everyone has a story. It’s what we do with our story that counts.

In America, I fear we have been allowing our God-given, Constitution supported Liberty to be stripped away as we are mesmerized by lies and propaganda about “the greater good.” Marxism, socialism, collectivism, progressivism are not about individual Liberty. They are about control and slavery. And yet, the World Economic Forum, the World Health Organization, and so many others want to control your life. Telling you what you are allowed to own (maybe “nothing”), what you can say, what you can do, whether you are allowed medical care, and even whether you are allowed to speak. Your work product is not to benefit you, it is to benefit society. In that economic respect, how is that different from the plantation? Your children are not your own. They belong to society as a whole. Isn’t that what the slavemaster said? Finally, if you do get money, it will be programmable so your spending can be carefully monitored, tracked and controlled.

We must embrace Juneteenth and never forget the horrors of slavery in all its forms! The verse for today should be Galatians 5:1:

“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.”

Enjoy the holiday. It is one worth celebrating! Then tomorrow, let’s get back to work fighting for and guarding the gift of Liberty. We have our work cut out for us!
